Matthew 1
There is a sense of quiet awe that comes when we experience the joy of God.
Touches of this joy fill our hearts, especially during Christmas when choirs
sing songs of adoration to God. Our minds can easily imagine the Savior of
this world being held within His mother's loving arms for the first time.
Scholars believe it is possible that Luke interviewed Mary in preparation for
the writing of his gospel. If this is so, imagine what it was like to listen
as the mother of our Lord recounted the events surrounding the Savior's birth.
Did her eyes fill with excitement as she recalled Gabriel's words to here?
"Greeting, favored one! The Lord is with you... Do not be afraid Mary; for
you have found favor with God" (Luke 1:28-30).
Mary's answer to God was one of humble but sincere faith: "My soul exalts the
Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has had regard for
the humble state of His (servant)... For the Mighty One has done great things
for me; and hole is His name" (Luke 1:46-49).
God could have chosen to come as king or a prince. Instead, He came as a baby
seeking shelter in the arms of a humble Jewish girl.
Just as He chose Mary, He has chosen you to carry the message of His love and
hope to the lost and lonely. Will you make this your goal this Christmas?
